Many small business owners don’t view their businesses as a personality. Overtime I have discovered that most people start small businesses without a vision or long-term goal. Most people start small businesses without a vision to add value. How many small businesses consciously build their brand? Does a small business need a brand strategy? Yes, yes and yes every business has a BRAND whether you are conscious of it or not. If you have a brand then you should have a plan to develop it. People often ask these questions especially small business owners. First of all let me clarify this; BRAND is not a word for only big businesses that can afford millions of Naira or dollars to be spent sponsoring big events or promotions. Branding is not only when you create a logo or when you embed your business logo on pens, t-shirts and other items. That is just you showing the visibility of your business which is a little aspect of branding. The word ‘BRAND’ is more than that and even more encompassing.. Now note this;
BRAND is the entire experience your prospects and customers have with your company, product or service. Your brand lives in every day-to-day interaction you have with your market. It is
 The images you convey (BRAND IDENTITY)
 The messages you deliver on your flyers, websites, proposals and campaigns (BRAND PROMISE)
 The way your employees interact with customers (BRAND REPUTATION)
 A customers opinion of you versus your competition(BRAND EQUITY)
Now when a business develops a culture of sending out birthday wishes to clients or a hair stylist adopts the role of sending out pictures of new hairdo to clients, it’s no different from what big businesses do. You can create your brand consciously or unconsciously irrespective of how big or small your business is.
Having a brand strategy is a plan for the development of a brand in order to achieve specific goals. So the fact that you are not planning is a plan in itself. . If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Don’t leave your brand building to chance. Your brand strategy defines what you stand for, a promise you make and the personality you convey. Now you see that both big and small businesses need a brand strategy. So I will ask again DOES YOU SMALL BUSINESS HAVE A BRAND STRATEGY???……
